FRANKLIN—Don Robertson, president of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Center, announces the installment of Rosalind Cutchins as the new executive director of the Children’s Center. Cutchins had been acting director the past 18 months.

“Rosalind is an experienced professional with a wealth of knowledge about early childhood education and development. She carries out our mission of nurturing children and their families with a great deal of passion and we are confident that the Children’s Center will continue to excel under her leadership,” Robertson said.

Cutchins, who has been with the Children’s Center as the program director since the agency began in October 1983, replaces Barbara Mease, who retired last month.

“I am excited to take over the reins of an agency that has been assisting children and families for many years, now,” Cutchins said. “For the past 30 years, I have learned from the best. I hope to continue in that tradition.”

Cutchins is a graduate of Southampton High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation from Longwood University, and obtained a master’s degree in recreation administration with an emphasis on therapeutics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Children’s Center is a private, nonprofit organization (501)(c)(3) (tax-exempt) that has served families in Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County and Franklin since 1983. The Center serves children of all levels of ability, including those with disabilities, and those who are economically disadvantaged. The mission is to nurture and educate children and their families.

The Children’s Center provides Early Head Start services to children ages birth to three and pregnant women, Head Start services to children ages three and four, Early Intervention services to infants and toddlers with delays in their development, licensed pediatric therapy and mental health services, and licensed early care and education for children six weeks to five years of age.

These programs are provided in the child’s home and in integrated settings at eight sites throughout Western Tidewater.
